This is what Bev's day started like... A

Until... Dave said... "LETS GO SHOPPING" |

Harry is Ready... |
Grocery shopping with
Harry-The thought brings terror to my heart- I'm afraid he'll be a wild
man & I in turn will be a wild women trying to control him- I can see
him shaking his head nervously, barking at those he doesn't like &
people thinking both of us are a little strange. I feel like I'm breaking
the rules of acceptance & I'll be labeled, the crazy lady with the
barking dog. I am not comfortable going against convention but yet I have
a spot in my heart that identifies with all who depend on their dogs to
take them through life. This lesson must be preparing me for something as
are the other experiences of my life have given me something for the
future. Harry & I will make it & maybe
I will learn to not be afraid of feeling foolish--
This is a beginning of something new....

And off we go... |
| I felt tremendous pride for Harry. He basically did
so much better than I expected him to that as my fear began to fly away I could feel we were on a joint mission. His was to handle himself in an acceptable way in very new surroundings with a lot of distractions which increased his focus on me. My mission was to conquer my own fears of being looked at, perhaps being made fun of, and as we each focused on our own job in this experience the synchronicity of the moment that brought us a little boy to learn the same things we were learning. His anxiety brought about his own type of behavior to handle his anxiety about getting to know the "hairy stranger", named Harry. As he focused on Harry and his job to give him treats, he quieted, gave the dog food and looked into his eyes and and they spoke boy/dog language. During those few seconds the boy learned Harry was safe and Harry learned the boy was safe. I learned to trust my dog a little more. I learned through the interactions and comments of the people in the store I was not thought of as a fool, but a friendly person, with a friendly dog and we met for a few seconds, people we'd never met before. I felt happy for the first time in months, sharing an adventure with Harry, my prince. Bev |
